Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC NID 2021

Juicy and complex red wine from the Roero wine region in Piemonte, north-west Italy, made from Barbera grapes. The vineyards lie north of Alba and the Tanaro river, close to the border with the province of Asti.

The Barbera for NID grows on the windier, drier south-west-facing plots of the estate. After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine matures for eight to ten months in small wooden barrels (barriques) of French oak and at least another six months in bottle. The result is a round, velvety Barbera with juicy red fruit, fresh acidity and, thanks to the oak ageing, lovely complexity. The name means 'nest' in Piedmontese dialect, a cosy, sheltered place, and sounds like 'need' in English.

This Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC NID 2021 pairs perfectly with traditional starters from Piemonte such as vitello tonnato or pasta with meat, and with main courses of red or roast meat.
