Riviera Ligure di Ponente Pigato DOC 2023

Elegant and juicy white wine from the Riviera Ligure di Ponente wine region in Liguria, north-west Italy, made from Pigato grapes. The vineyards lie between 350 and 450 metres, near the village of Dolceacqua, close to the French border.

Pigato is a local variant of Vermentino: genetically the same grape, but while Vermentino is found all over Liguria, Pigato belongs to the western part, the Ponente, where it went its own way and adapted to this coastline. Terre Bianche picks it at around 400 metres in its Terrabianca, Scartozzoni and Arcagna vineyards. The result is a full, round white that still stays fresh and balanced. And the name? It comes from the rust-coloured speckles ('pigau' in dialect) on the ripe grapes.

This Riviera Ligure di Ponente Pigato DOC 2023 pairs perfectly with fish dishes in a rich (butter- or cream-based) sauce, white meat, pasta with pesto, or simply on its own as a meditation wine.
